Dear Max Larsen Elementary Families,

We are excited to welcome our Cardinals back for an incredible new school year! Our entire staff has been working diligently to create a nurturing and dynamic learning environment for your children.

Arrival and Breakfast
Our doors open at 8:25am. This year, all students will continue to receive FREE breakfast and lunch. Morning arrival procedures are designed for smooth transitions. Kindergarten and first-grade students will have breakfast in the cafeteria before moving to the playground. Young 5 students will first go to the playground and then have breakfast in their classroom.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Safety
To ensure student safety, we have specific protocols in place. For drop-off, please queue on Parkhurst Street. This line will turn at Fremont Street. Please do not physically stop along the yellow line on Fremont Street to allow others to safely pass. Also, please do not block the bus entrance/exit or residential driveways. Staff will be available to assist children exiting vehicles. Special needs drop-off is located at the Clay Street staff parking lot. Please display your parking placard in your side window so our staff and resource officers get to know you.  Walking drop-offs should use the "see you later" spot at the building entrance.

Afternoon Pick-Up
Afternoon pick-up procedures include displaying a window placard for quick dismissal. Students will be dismissed at 3:55 pm. Walkers should be picked up at the playground exit doors. Please note that there will be no entry into hallways or the building during drop off or pick-up.

Important Reminders

Please remember to:
- Bring name placards
- Call the office 30 minutes before dismissal if pick-up plans change
- Have a driver's license ready if no placard is available

We can't wait to see our wonderful students tomorrow morning!

Warmly,

Mrs. Hardway

Dear Parents and Guardians of Max Larsen Elementary, Today, our school conducted a routine emergency preparedness drill. We want to proactively communicate with you about this important safety practice. What You Should Know: - A planned safety drill took place during school hours - Students were calm and followed all established procedures - We prepared students beforehand by reading the book "I'm Not Scared, I'm Prepared" If Your Child Discusses the Drill: - Listen supportively - Reassure them that drills are about staying safe - Emphasize that these practices help everyone be prepared

April 16, 2025 Jefferson Elementary School was closed today due to an electrical situation overnight. A custodian smelled what could best be described as wire burning. The custodian called 911 and Coldwater Fire Department responded. There was no fire, but the smell was confirmed. This district’s maintenance department was sent to the building as there was no power at the time. Jepson Electric sent an electrician who tested lines entering the building from the transformer. Three lines were found to be inoperable. In order to restore power to the building, the three lines needed to be replaced, and the estimated time for the work would not allow for us to open the building today. As of 10:30 this morning, power has been restored and our maintenance department and technology director were testing throughout the building to ensure no damage. A very special thanks to the custodian who contacted 911, Coldwater Fire Department, our maintenance crew and Jepson Electric for the quick response to get our building back up and running! On Saturday, April 4, 2025 a few Coldwater High School students contacted Coldwater High School administrators and the Coldwater High School Resource Officer about a SnapChat posting. The SnapChat posting was an image of a weapon and a Cheetos bag with the message “Guys come to school tomorrow I have Cheetos.” The Coldwater City Police Department was contacted immediately and started to investigate. The Coldwater City Police Department, working with CHS administrators, were able to identify the student in the posting. The investigation included working with the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and the Bronson Police Department. The investigation found that there was no credible threat to any students, staff or others at Coldwater High School. As always, the safety of our school and our community depends on all of us. We appreciate that CHS students brought this to our attention so that it could be investigated. Whenever we see something suspicious, it should always be reported. Wow! What an amazing day of science fun at SCIENCEPALOOZA! 🔬🧪🚀 Our Max Larsen students had a blast exploring hands-on science activities today! From testing their own body's electricity ⚡ to solving tricky balancing puzzles 🤹‍♂️, students got to be real scientists. Some highlights: - Using clues by feeling inside the mystery boxes to determine what is was 📦 - Watching things float in our mini "outer space" vacuum chambers 🌌 - Building ocean food webs with Jenga blocks 🐠🦈 - Programming color-sensing robots 🤖 - Making and flying their very own hoop gliders ✈️ Students loved playing memory games with LEGO bricks 🧱. They even got to do a "gravity-defying" water experiment! 😮 These fun activities helped our students learn about electricity, gravity, space, ecosystems, coding, and more - all while having a great time! A big THANK YOU to all of our amazing volunteers who made this day possible. We couldn't have done it without your help and support! 👏👏👏 #ScienceIsFun #HandsOnLearning #ThankYouVolunteers

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended our McTeacher's Night at McDonald's last night. Your participation has made a significant impact for our students. A special shoutout goes to Mrs. Stroud for her exceptional coordination of this wonderful event. We sincerely appreciate her hard work and dedication. Also, thank you to all of our teachers who worked the event. We are also profoundly thankful to the Maynard family, owners of the local McDonald's, for their generous support of Max Larsen in this fundraiser. Together, we raised $71.27 in cash donations and $487.64 from our event, bringing our total to $548.91! This event exemplifies the spirit of community—coming together to support our youngest Coldwater Cardinals. Thank you for being an integral part of this remarkable effort! ❤️ Together We Soar!
